چکیده

Investigations were conducted on a series of calcium and lanthanum oxides catalyst for biodiesel production. Mixed oxides catalyst showed a superior transesterification activity over pure calcium or pure lanthanum oxide catalysts. The catalyst activity was correlated with surface basicity and specific surface areas. The effects of water and free fatty acids (FFA) levels in oil feedstock, water and CO2 in air, mass ratio of catalyst, molar ratio of oil to methanol, and reaction temperature on fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) yield were investigated. Under optimal conditions, FAME yields reached 94.3% within 60 min at 58 8C. Mixed CaO-La2O3 catalyst showed a high tolerance to water and FFA, and could be used for converting pure or diluted unrefined/waste oils to biodiesel. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Simultaneous transesterification and esterification of unrefined or waste oils over ZnO-La2O3 catalysts

A single-step method was developed for biodiesel production from unrefined or waste oils using a series of heterogeneous zinc and lanthanum mixed oxides. Effects of metal oxide molar ratio, free fatty acids (FFA) and water content in feedstock, molar ratio of methanol and oil, and reaction temperature on the yield of biodiesel were investigated. A strong interaction between Zn and La species wa...

Catalytic production of biodiesel from corn oil by metal-mixed oxides

The present study investigates the transesterification of corn oil with methanol over two oxides of MgO and ZnO at 65 ͦC and 1 atm. These two catalysts have been prepared via a conventional co-precipitation process. As for MgO, the corresponding mixed metal nitrate solution has been mixed and heated at the presence of urea. ZnO has also been synthesized by co-precipitation of metal acetate at th...

Heterogeneous base catalysts for edible palm and non-edible Jatropha-based biodiesel production

BACKGROUND Transesterification catalyzed by solid base catalyst is a brilliant technology for the noble process featuring the fast reaction under mild reacting condition in biodiesel production. Heterogeneous base catalysts are generally more reactive than solid acid catalysts which require extreme operating condition for high conversion and biodiesel yield. In the present study, synthesis of b...

Biodiesel production using solid metal oxide catalysts

Biodiesel production is worthy of continued study and optimization of production procedures due to its environmentally beneficial attributes and its renewable nature. Heterogeneous transesterification is considered to be a green process. The process requires neither catalyst recovery nor aqueous treatment steps and very high yields of methyl esters can be obtained, close to the theoretical valu...
